I wanted to share this to help others as I found some difficulty when I had to choose colors for my granite counter tops ...
Granite counter tops are often used for many construction projects. Many people choose this for their home because it looks natural and expensive but is versatile nonetheless. The good thing is that this stone comes in several different colors so you can choose a color to match your kitchen décor or theme. The pallet of colors range from very light colors such as white and sand to darker colors such as black and dark green.
The best place to purchase granite counter tops is to visit a kitchen design store or a home improvement store. There are also fabricators where you can go to look at samples at the various types of stone and colors. You can also get a good idea at the various prices so you will have a good idea of what you can and cannot afford. You can also go online and visit the websites of different manufacturers.
Your area should have various stores that sell this slate ad you can visually look at and hold different granite samples. Most manufacturers will allow you to order samples of slate right from their website. You may have to pay a minute fee to get the samples but you will at least have something to compare with your walls and cabinets to see if a certain color fits in your home.
If you do not have any type of theme or décor in your kitchen, you want to choose a neutral color. This is because if you decide to sell your home at some point, a neutral color pretty much goes with anything. If you choose slate that is green in color and you decide to sell your home, a potential homebuyer may not share the same taste in color and design as you do. You may want to choose something that is trendy now but chances are it will not be in style five years down the road. Also, if you choose say black slate, you might like black today but hate it next week.
You want to look at all aspects of your kitchen including accessories, flooring, cabinets and appliances. Choose a color that will match all of these. You want the coloring of the granite to blend in and not stand out. You may choose beige slate to match your appliances only to find out that is does not match your blue flooring. Take into account any remodeling of the kitchen you plan to do in the future. You may want to change your flooring, cabinets or appliances and then you realize that your granite counter tops do not match anymore.
Lighting is very important when it comes to choosing the slate coloring. If your kitchen does not have a lot of light, you will want to choose a softer, lighter color for your counter tops. This is especially true if the lighting is natural light such as sunlight. On the opposite side, if your kitchen is very bright in the light department, a dark colors counter top is ideal.
