Granite:

Granite is a natural stone of immense beauty, and the most durable of all natural materials used for home and commercial countertops. It is scratch resistant, heat resistant, stain resistant, water and chemical resistant, very easy to clean, and available in many colours and patterns. Granite’s timeless aesthetic appeal and extreme durability makes this stone a classic, enduring choice for any surface.

Pros: Can withstand hot pans; comes in beautiful colors; very durable; difficult to scratch.

Cons: Porous so needs to be resealed regularly; has joins; colors and patterns can differ from the showroom sample.

Cost: Common colors are cheaper than engineered stone, but exotic colors are more expensive than engineered stone.

Engineered stone:

Engineered Stone is the latest must-have for sleek modern functional countertops. Combining the durability of natural stone with a variety of man-made uniform colours and patterns, this surface is becoming increasingly popular for high-end applications. Engineered stone gives your countertops a luxurious, elegant, modern look and feel.

Pros: Doesn’t have to be sealed; large variety of colors and patterns; difficult to scratch.

Cons: Does not have as high a heat resistance, and hot pots should not be placed directly on the surface; uniform look isn’t for everyone.

Cost: Generally more expensive than granite.

Granite countertops is more stain resistant and wear resistant than marble. While it is not perfect, granite holds up far better in high traffic uses such as counter tops and flooring.
