2cm vs. 3cm Stonepac on 8/4/10
For those that are confused as to which thickness of slabs they should use for their granite countertops, look no further. I've included some basic information on 2cm and 3cm.

2cm
Pros:
Easier to install (Weighs less than 3cm)
Slabs are easier to find in an array of colours
Edge profile looks thicker when double laminated

Cons:
Will show seems on the edge profile
Fabrication may cost more with double laminate edge profile

3cm
Pros:
Seemless edge profile

Cons:
Harder to install as each piece will be a lot heavier than 2cm
Material cost is more expensive than 2cm

Summary

Although 2cm granite countertops are less expensive and easier to install, many people opt for 3cm purely on the fact that you will not see a seem line on your edge profile.

Does the additional costs for 3cm counters warrant a seemless edge profile? That's strictly up to the consumer. Many people don't mind a seem and in most cases will not even notice it. For others, a seem on the profile may really turn them off. To each their own.

Be aware, not all colours available in 2cm slabs are available in 3cm slabs.

You should always contact your granite fabricator and check on availability for 3cm materials.

Back splash jjyy123 on 22/3/10
Slab backsplashes can look very high end in some cases, but will depend on the colour your using. It can also look very busy depending on the veining of the material.

Mosaic backsplashes are more popular compared to slab backsplashes. You will have a lot of different materials to play with (natural stone/ceramic/glass). The cost of mosaic backsplashes will probably be less expensive as well.
